Although techniques and methods have changed, the concept of visual image editing has not. Since the birth of cinematography the goal of storytelling has remained the same: to tell an engaging story.
Editing is not only a technical process, it is the step in which raw footage is transformed, thus giving birth to the magic of cinema.
There have been cases in which gifted editors have turned mediocre material into great films. The most insignificant details in the right context can become a tool to influence the emotional world of the audience. At NSF, our editors are top rated professionals who possess the ability to deeply comprehend, both logically and emotionally, the material at hand. The editing of a film or TV series begins with the identification of primary and secondary plot lines. At this time the director familiarizes the editor with his vision of the story and how to approach the material.
The next step involves reviewing the draft footage and making certain that it is in compliance with the director's stated vision. After these discussions, we can begin the work of assembling the first rough edited version. At the same time the musical score of the project also begins to take shape. In many cases, the addition of music changes the dynamics and rhythm of the footage. That's why we believe that these processes should happen simultaneously.
The same approach is often used in the case of special effects if they carry a thematic or emotional load.
When all the components are in place, the final version starts to emerge. It would seem that at this point the majority of the work is finished, but as experience shows, this is usually when the most significant alterations take place. This can be the most difficult stage in the process of creation. The picture is later sent for sound production and color correction.

This is a particularly interesting process. In many cases, the sound quality of the picture may decide its future fate.
Sound can provide depth to perception and adds an extra dimension to the image on the screen. Well-made sound can improve ordinary material and give it qualities that were originally not present. Sound can create an atmosphere of anxiety or joy, fear or inspiration. Our sound directors can create an emotional layer that complements the mood of the frame.
Many of them are professional musicians, so the sound in their hands turns into a kind of musical score. We also work with many renowned foley artists in the field of synchronized sound. A foley artist is a person who recreates, for example, the creak of a door or the sound of footsteps for the desired atmosphere in the frame. Today, many sound directors resort to available audio libraries of synchronized sounds in order to save money. However, we believe that these libraries can only be used in addition to the work of a good foley artist.
